I wish I saw myself more in the cartoons I watched growing up as a little black girl. I wanted to see girls like me as multidimensional characters. Not as the sidekick or the comic relief but the pretty one, the popular one, the protagonist. I write my own story now. I define myself. So brown kids growing up will know they have the power to do the same. ⁣
